What is Marmite and why people don't like it.

Marmite

Marmite is a thick, sticky paste made from strong yeast extract, by product from brewing beer. It’s a British food spread produced by Unilever.

Marmite has a very typical flavor. The taste is so unique, it taste like soy sauce flavor with old engine oil. Some people really like eating it, but some people don’t like eating it at all.

It was included in soldiers rations in World War I and, along with bully beef, Spam and condensed milk, it was popular among civilians and the military between 1939 and 1945. In 1999 the company sent extra supplies to homesick British indoor troops in Kosovo.

A sculpture has been built in Marmite's honour. Unilever spent £15,000 on a sculpture of a Marmite jar. The sculpture, nicknamed Monumite, now takes pride of place next to the main library in Burton-on-Trent.
