 The story of FAT THURSDAY

The story of Fat Thursday goes back to the habits of pagans. It was the day of spring and the donuts were only dessert. That day was celebrated in Rome. There is a legend in Poland. In Małopolska this day was called Comber’s Thursday. Why? The name came from the mayor of Kraków-he was called Comber. He was a bad man for woman who traded on the Kraków Market.

One day the prophecy said that Comber would die on a Fat Thursday. And that’s how it happened. On every anniversary of the death, people danced and ate donuts on the market. Later the donuts changed into the ones we eat today. But not completely. They had a small almond. The person who catch the nut will be lucky. Today, it’s said that whoever doesn’t eat the donut will not be lucky. Today’s FAT THURSDAY Every year 100 milions donuts are eaten in Poland.

Already in the morning, there are big queues for the bakery. We eat donuts everywhere. On this day you can hardly find the person without the donut. In Poland, a lot of people celebrate this day and it’s impossible to forget about it.
