100th Anniversary of Polish Independence

November 11 is a special day for every Pole. It is a national holiday celebrating regaining Independence of our country. This year it was special because we celebrated 100 years of being a sovereign country.

Imagine 100 years without a home. There were Poles, they spoke Polish but they officially could not.

After Poland was divided by 3 of their neighbors it vanished from maps for 123 years.

Maybe to those three oppressors it seemed as all hope was gone, but not for Poles.

It was a time when our nation tried to unite and fight for FREEDOM.

We had many uprising but not sooner than after World War 1 did we succeed in breaking free.

Thanks to many great figures such as Józef Piłsudski - we were led to independence and ever since share

- a white and red flag,

Flag

-national anthem - Mazurek Dąbrowskiego,

-and a coat of arms: a white, crowned eagle with a golden beak and talons, on a red background.

On November 11 we display our flags and we walk the streets in parades. There are many concerts and events commemorating this day. We are happy that we can speak Polish and prolong our traditions.
