Colombia: National Symbols

This week volunteers from Colombia are visiting our school, talking about their country and teaching us English and Spanish. We prepared a series of articles about Colombia.

Hymn, flag and coat of Colombia.

The author of the national anthem  "¡Oh Gloria Inmarcesible!"   became his president Rafael Núñez.

Listen here:

The flag consists of three horizontal bands: yellow, blue and red. Yellow means justice, blue - a symbol of nobility and sacrifice, and a red band means a fight for freedom.

The coat of arms is a symbol of freedom and the Andes. A wreath or an olive branch in its beak means peace.
