Geography
Scotland is part of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. It borders with England to the south and is otherwise surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and Irish Sea to the south-west. The country has more than 790 islands. Capital it's Edinburgh. Glasgow is the largest and most important city in the counrty.
History
Scotland has been inhabited since at least the 5th millennium BC.
The struggle for influence in Scotland continues throughout his history. With time, Scotland was connected with England. Scots have never come to terms with English domination. In May 1999, the Scots chose their own parliament in response to the 1997 referendum in which 75% of voters expressed their desire to have their own legislative authority.
In 2007, the Prime Minister of the Scottish Government presented a bill to conduct an independence referendum that would allow Scotland to separate from Britain. On 15 October 2012 British and Scottich Prime Minister's signed an agreement in Edinburgh, under which the referendum was held on 18 September 2014. In a referendum, over 55% of Scots were in favor of remaining in the United Kingdom.

Economy
An important element of the Scottish economy is fishing and oil extraction. The metallurgical, electrotechnical, electronic, machine, chemical, textile, paper and food industries are developed.
Agriculture
Scotland has fertile agricultural areas. Mainly barley and oats are grown.
Currency
Scotland has its own banknotes and coins (Scottish pounds). The currency is the pound sterling.
Culture and cuisine
Dudy and kilt are the most well-known products of Scottish culture. Kilt as a male skirt was already known in times of Roman conquests in the British Isles. The characteristic material from which the kilt is made is made of sheep's wool, and the kilt pattern is called a tartan. Each Scottish clan has its own unique kilt pattern. Scottish cuisine is known for its shortbread (buttered crispbread), kidney pie and haggis. Haggis is a sheep's stomach filled with a mixture of chopped sheep's offals (heart, lungs and liver), oatmeal, onions and spices, stitched and cooked. Usually it is served with potatoes. Scottish cuisine is characterized by a large number of dishes containing oats - cranachan. A traditional Scottish breakfast consists of porridge, eggs fried with bacon or smoked fish. Attractions
One of the most famous attractions in Scotland is the Loch Ness lake. Apparently a monster lives in it. In Scotland there is also an interesting Glenfinnan viaduct that looks like from the movie "Harry Potter". It is also worth seeing the mountain of King Arthur. It is the highest peak in Hollyrood Park, which is located in the center of Edinburgh.
